  • "Christy Gaffney is a poet who showed up at grangegorman with gifts; a corded angle grinder and various cutting disks, including a 4 ˝ inch diamond embedded stone cutting disk. Coincidentally, we ended up using similar tools on the very same gasbottle pictured here, alongside twenty-five others, in a massive squat just off O’Connell street, the old neary’s hotel, what we called the barricade inn. Twenty-six of these gas-bottles were converted into woodstoves, with a short stack-pipe, and driven over into Dunkirk refugee camp where they were installed in various shelters during the winter of 2016, under the banner of Irish Benders and Burners. A bender is a simple gypsy-style tent. I remember the warm summer evening sitting there on top of the portacabin, shouting “the floor is lava” at passers by. Almi took the photo while we were sipping cider playing stupid games with debris." David Ryan
