ANNA ALLWORTHY AND ADAM DE VILLE
We are both interested in place and travel, and the layers beneath the surface. This collaboration enables us to explore and expand our individual process with the main focus being on derelict buildings with a rich history now fading, quietly crumbling away. We are kind of conjuring an imaginary future for these buildings or lifting some dusty floorboards to find a menagerie of characters. These characters are often from childhood Saturday afternoon tv, nostalgic, maybe heartwarming, serving the buildings’ need to belong again...
We like playing with form and expectations, often leaving areas free and the underlying painting prep work open for all to see. I think we like the idea of deconstructing and mining the original image for hidden stories and leaving ourselves open to the odd surprise!
The coming together of our different work creates something new, hopefully fun, maybe sometimes beautiful if we are lucky.
