Heather Byrne’s paintings pull you into atmospheric shorelines and glowing dusk skies.
She works intuitively in the studio, moving away from realism to capture a sense of
place. Her focus is always charged with weather and how it feels to be there, in that
moment. Yet, her paintings are rooted to location studies made on the coast throughout
the year.
Heather studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Birmingham Art College, receiving a
First-Class Hons Degree. She had a successful career as an Art Director and designer,
working for national newspaper and magazine publishing houses in London, Dublin and
Belfast.
Heather now paints full time, on seascape and still life collections. Her attention to line
and colour are indicators of her design background. Her love of drawing and finding the
essence of everyday subjects is the focus of her still life. The same dusky pinks and
neutral hues in her seascapes can be found in the still life, bringing an unexpected
connection between all her work.
In 2023, two paintings ‘Plums in blue bowl’ and ‘Cloud ShiS’ were selected and sold at
the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition.
In 2025, two of Heather’s still life paintings were selected for the prestigious The
Discerning Eye exhibition, at The Mall Galleries in London, selected from over 6,500
entries.
She lives and works on the north coast of Ireland, working from her studio and on
location. Her work is privately owned with collectors in Ireland, England, Scotland,
America and Australia.

Discerning Eye Annual exhibition, at The Mall Galleries in London. Chosen by curators from over 6,500
entries, 735 works by 529 artists were shortlisted for this prestigious show.
November 2025: exhibited five paintings with Art For Youth Annual Exhibition at The Mall Galleries
