Heidi Wickham was born 1966 in Abergavenny, South Wales. She is a graduate of West Surrey College of Art and Design and a BA(Hons) in Fine Art from the West of England University, Bristol. Having moved to Ireland in the early 90's she has continued making her distinctive animal paintings from a home studio in County Sligo. She first worked in the Model Niland Gallery and through that quickly got into the Sligo art scene with the Sligo Arts Festival and similar projects. She wrote a number of educational plays for teenagers which were performed through ‘Sones’ a government FAS scheme in Sligo and she travelled to Florida with The Yeats Theatre Company as set designer and costumer. She has been working in charcoal and built a studio at her home.
Awards include The Hamilton Award, RUA perpetual trophy, RUA drawing award as well as bursaries to the Tyrone Guthrie Centre and Cill Rialaig . Her work has hung in many galleries including RHA Dublin ,RSA Edinburgh ,RUA Belfast, RA London, Mall Galleries London as well as several Irish galleries with her primary partnership being Kilbaha Gallery co Clare.
