Leonard Sexton is based in Skerries, Co. Dublin. He employs emotionally-charged brushstrokes in his oil paintings to depict the sea, the city and the figure.
Leonard Sexton has been painting full-time for over four decades, with many sell-out shows. In private and public collections, at home and abroad. They have also appeared at art fairs with many galleries over the years.
He describes his practice as a ‘randomly guided depiction of events’.
Just for him, the reasoning is dissatisfaction with over-planning outside the act of painting.
It induces a lack of enthusiasm, crushing his adventurous spirit. Making it impossible for him, to connect emotionally.
"My paintings are constantly being disrupted by the subconscious. They continually reform until self-aware. Or the elements within the painting seem to agree with the framework".
Through his paintings, you are made to question your grasp of the world around you.
The background is time, mood, shadow, tone, and line, with confidence, his paintings also gain a subliminal backdrop to social and political events.
