I'm particularly drawn to nocturnal scenes, a genre that was popular among artists in Victorian times and at the turn of the 19th century. This scene was done from the mainland at Castletown Bere looking out across to the Island of Dinish with Bere island behind it. Dinish island has a road out to it and has been completely taken over by industrial fish processing units and fishing berths which gave it a lot of nocturnal light sources. It's unusual to find any large scale commercial fishing linked to an island in Ireland and this scene with the Bere island ferry in the foreground just ticked all the boxes for me in terms of subject, composition, colour and light.
