I was inspired to paint Summer Song after looking at Dod Proctor's Girl with Parrot' 1924 as can be seen in the classical pose of my figure and my version of her colours of orange, pink and green. My parrot is incorporated into the wallpaper design which was inspired by a Walter Crane 1908 wallpaper. It soon became imbued with a summery feel so I introduced a thirst quenching jug of crystal clear water alongside a bowl and jug of milk for the cat on her shoulder.
