Lettermore is one of a string of islands now linked to each other and the mainland by roads. While this has obviously brought many benefits to its residents I imagine it also changed the feel and identity of the place somewhat. This fairly abstracted painting is of one of the harbours that would have been so essential to transport links between the islands but now redundant for that purpose. It was a beautiful clear night and these islands are largely sheltered from the raging Atlantic so the channel was particularly calm and peaceful that evening for painting outside.
