This small plein air work was done in the aftermath of Storm Barra in early 2022. The small scale allowed me to capture the essence of the terrific waves crashing across the back of this tiny Island and sluicing through the channel that the sea had previously carved over the millennia along the centre of the island. Completely inhospitable for human inhabitation it seemed remarkable that the sea hadn't completely erased the place by now. I used a technique of muted colours, impasto and a palette knife to create the effect of the waves.
