This was the final painting that I did for the exhibition and at that stage I was trying to tie the whole thing together making sure that there were no missing areas that I wanted to cover. For many of the trips it wasn't just about the finished painting but the whole experience of getting there and the Islands topography. Omey has a unique atmosphere as it is linked by a sandy causeway that one can drive over at low tide but is cut off from mid-tide onwards. Many a visitor has been stranded on it until the tide turns and it has a lovely balance of being at the same time accessible and possesses a sense of the remote which has kept if from excess development. It is a tranquil place and wandering slowly over the island there are many scenes like this one with old farmhouses gradually being slowly taken over by the shifting sand dunes.
