“Urban Shadows”
An exhibition of new paintings by Leonard Sexton
March 5th – 26th
The Doorway Gallery, 24 South Frederick St, Dublin 2.
The Doorway Gallery is delighted to host an exhibition by Leonard Sexton, entitled “Urban Shadows”, on Thursday March 5th between 6-7.30pm on 24 South Frederick Street.
In the last year, Leonard had been exhibiting and attending Art Fairs, internationally with The Doorway Gallery. Additionally, Leonard was selected to paint RADA/ exhibited, at the National Theatre in London.
Leonard visualises things in an odd and unique way. At a relatively young age, Leonard was largely inspired by Renaissance art, and being overwhelmed by this immediate interest of style. He felt an isolation in his fascination. Leonards paintings start out as a simple narrative, then build up to a complexity.
He relies on symbols taken directly from his own imagination, and uses them as his form of research and expression. He draws on his memories and emotions, that are translated to his paintings. Throughout his works, Leonard represents some forms of emotional truth, that has become a characteristic of his work. He has a direct connection in his painting, with no plan or idea in mind. He simply allows his own creativity to naturally flow, resulting in a visual marriage.
“Painting about time and place in the city, as a draw of energy, lost and gained. Painting over the city's association with " the new renaissance of ideas". Binding painting to an emotional duration. Fixing the cityscape as an emotional symbol within a structure of painting.” Leonard Sexton
