An exhibition of new paintings by Anna Allworthy

November 4th – 25th

The Doorway Gallery, 24 South Frederick St, Dublin 2.

The Doorway Gallery is delighted to host an exhibition by Anna Allworthy.  The exhibition will be hanging on our gallery walls in our gallery on South Frederick Street.

Depicting the urban jungle is quite the arduous task, however, Kent-based artist Anna Allworthy captures the metropolitan landscape effortlessly. Individuality is of the utmost importance when characterizing these grocery stores, boutiques, factories, and also the scenes of downtown Manhattan and inner city London.

The artist employs an abundant amount of colour on a canvas that would be dull and gray without this romanticized portrayal of city-life, pushing the viewer to ask themselves if we often need to see the good in life in order to survive? Maybe this is the artist's mission in life? After all, Allworthy spent many years studying both fine art and photography at the Kent Institute of Art and Design and the University of Nottingham in order to perfect these two disciplines which she later amalgamated into one and used on her works. "I was not very good at what we would define as classical or academic art, but with this new form of art, I found my passion and something I succeeded at."

Pen and charcoal sketches represent the starting stage of a composition for Allworthy, as she then moves onto layering other mediums with photography, texture and finally acrylic and oil paint. Like every good artist, Allworthy is inspired by what surrounds her and also, her travels, resulting in thought-provoking, authentic and well-crafted snapshots of the world.
