More Info:
I had been studying a lot of evening paintings by other artists particularly from the late Victorian period and turn of the 19th century. There was a whole genre called 'crepuscules' meaning that time of twilight when the sky turns into those soft silvery tones of peach, cream and minty green. Working 'en plein air' at these times requires one to work incredibly quickly and efficiently and develop a good working memory as the light changes within 20 minutes at the most. I feel these paintings really work best on this smaller scale and they often have a unique sense of intimacy.
